A hundreds of miles car travel: The wedding of Paola and Baldemar in Petén

Traveling hundreds of miles to cover a wedding (and practically going through the whole country) can be exhausting; but the fact of getting a call from Petén and having booked their wedding date with so much time ahead I guess speaks well of what we do and that brings a lot of satisfaction. On June 30th we traveled to Petén, we got there a few minutes before five o’clock, after checking in at the hotel, we walked to the church in Sayaxché, where the next day in the morning would be the wedding and there in the church were the bride and the groom checking some details about the decoration; we introduced ourselves and had some small talk about some details for the big day.

“Most of the times I meet the couples until the wedding day”

We packed our luggage on Saturday before the ceremony began because we already knew we had to cross by ferry the river “La Pasión” (wich you can see in one of the photos, almost the first one I took when we got there), in order to keep traveling in road for almost one more hour to Hacienda San Vicente on road to San Francisco, Petén; where the civil marriage, the photoshoot and the wedding reception… every stage of the wedding was beautiful, with a lot of detail for every special moment: the decoration, the choreography, the accessories, the place… Everything! But particularly standing out the enthusiasm of the bride, the fiancée and all the guests, great people.

Although before and during the photoshoot it rained abundantly, that didn’t stop us. Nonetheless, after taking a few pictures in the photoshoot, I saw Waldemar with some really earnest expressions…, so I showed him one of the pictures and he reacted with joy and told Paola: “You were right!” I asked them what was going on and they explained to me that when she was going to hire me, his reaction was something like “Why do you want a photographer from Guatemala City? Just hire someone from here, I bet he won’t even come all the way over here, but I see now that you were right”. There are a lot of ways in which people recognize our work, directly or indirectly… for me, this was a special moment; thanks for trusting us.
